I think I would have just paid the money (at least for a few months to see if I'm getting my money's worth) rather than going through all that trouble of trying out different machines, etc. That's just me though. I realize some people are more comfortable with taking matters into their own hands and enjoy getting into the nitty gritty. I'm also the kind of person who would much rather hire a trusted plumber, mechanic, etc to just get it done than muck about it myself.
