What I find interesting is that something can suddenly get a lot of media attention once it has a catchy name to describe it, like "quiet quitting".
I suspect it's not a recent phenomenon, just that it was recently given a name that is perfect for attention-grabbing headlines.
It just goes to show you the power of naming things.
- theideaofcoffee 3y agoI see similarities in this with the accessible naming of recent software vulnerabilities, a la shellshock, rowhammer, and others. I don’t think these would have garnered much coverage in the pop tech press had they been referred to with their CVE designators, CVE-2014-6271 and CVE-2020-10255, respectively. The naming matters like you said.
