- fargle 4y agonot that this is the best written article, but: > Experts say that this kind of flattening makes sense in the short term — but is likely to carry negative consequences for those companies in the long term. Getting rid of middle managers can be a drag on company culture, even as it stymies career growth amid its workforce. And: > There's a perception among many young workers that rising to the level of management is the path to success Ya think? Perhaps because that's nearly always the case. Sooo... maybe we ought to build a robust technical track so that we can reward technical talent without simultaneously forcing engineers that aren't great managers to either become crappy managers and throw away their skills or be stuck working for them. It's an economic inefficiency and this is just a correction, possibly even an over-correction if taken to the extreme. But I welcome it. The only non-technical managers should be those naturally extremely skilled in managing, not burned out ex-engineers that took the job for career reasons.
