It's also state owned.
From what I've seen it's the best combo of green and pricing in the world.

- panarky 4y agoSame in Seattle. 100% hydro. Zero emissions. 0.11 USD per kWh. Owned and operated by the City of Seattle, not a profit-making corporation.
- sefrost 4y ago0.96 CAD per kWh just up the road here in BC. I moved to Canada from the UK and it’s still unbelievable to me how much cheaper energy is here. If you’re renting a place you don’t even pay for gas. I have unlimited gas in my apartment all year round! I’ve never been so warm in my life. I would highly recommend any young Brits reading this to seriously look at making the move. It’s amazing out here.

- jacquesm 4y ago0.96 $CAD doesn't seem all that cheap.
- haxxorfreak 4y agoI think they made an error converting cents to dollars, I just checked BC Hydro's rate and it's actually $0.0959 CAD (9.59 cents) for the first 1,350 kWh in a month (Step 1) then raises to $0.1422 after that (Step 2).[1] [1] https://app.bchydro.com/accounts-billing/rates-energy-use/electricity-rates/residential-rates.html https://app.bchydro.com/accounts-billing/rates-energy-use/el...

- prepend 4y agoThat’s curious, I live in Georgia where power is 0.08 USD/kWh and it’s mostly coal with some renewable and nuclear mixed in. It seems like hydro would be cheaper.
- yeahwhatever10 3y agoNot for long. All the environmentalists wanting to remove dams on the Columbia will send Seattle’s cost skyrocketing.
- lom 3y agoAnd also incapable of repairing power lines, apparently
- mpsprd 3y agoThe lines in front of my house were shorted by a tree, melted and fell, blocking my driveway. In about 20 hours the power was back, 2 trucks came and fixed the lines. I live in the countryside, so YMMV
