Ask HN: Do you still use antivirus software?
- mardiyah 4y agoDo you still use Windows OS & software? Linux multitude more immune, use it
- MissTake 4y agohttps://linuxsecurity.com/features/linux-malware-the-truth-about-this-growing-threat https://linuxsecurity.com/features/linux-malware-the-truth-a... Also it's not exactly easy to migrate operating systems.
- PaulHoule 4y agoAt work I work on a system that processes uploads from partners we work with so we incorporate a virus scanner that scans everything that gets uploaded. This is a stand-alone product that scans a file at a time, it never scans the whole disk or does any real-time protection.
- zer0tonin 4y agoYes, but I simply use the built-in Windows Defender. I've not bothered installing third-party AVs in years as they do not seem to be more reliable and many came with extra security issues (looking at you Comodo)
- YourDadVPN 4y agoI have a daily cronjob that runs Clam AV, rkhunter and a few others on my Linux laptop & home server. Never really detected anything but I don't even notice the scan running, contrary to any AV software I used on Windows.
- verdverm 4y agoWe run ClamAV on our cloud VMs, it once found a bot program that participates in DDoS attacks.
- CM30 4y agoI just use the built in Windows Defender program on my Windows machine, and don't bother with anything on Mac OS or Linux.
- mattbgates 4y agoSince I only use Chromebooks, I've no need for any antivirus software at all.
