I'm sorry to break it to you, but monorepos are extremely common. Doesn't mean they have to be as large but every company I've been at had a monorepo. And as soon as you have to manage PRs for multiple repos with a new cross-cutting feature or scheduling changes in the correct order you understand why they are so appealing.
