Access to abortion pill in limbo after competing rulings
- RecycledEle 4y ago[flagged]
- baseline-shift 4y agoThis "abortion pill" is actually taken within day after intercourse. It simply prevents implantation of the ovum in the womb lining. So in fact there is not yet even a zygote, let alone a fetus, let alone a third trimester unborn baby

So in fact there is not yet even a zygote, let alone a fetus, let alone a third trimester unborn baby You’re thinking of “Plan B”. What’s being discussed in the article is a drug that helps cause actual abortions. It’s not taken a day after intercourse, and does not work by preventing implementation of ovum in the uterine lining. Your comment is simply wrong. Whether you know it or not, you are spreading misinformation. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/how-abortion-medications-differ-from-plan-b-and-other-emergency-contraceptives/ https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/how-abortion-medi...
- baseline-shift 4y agoyou are right, my mistake. I will edit my comment to include what an abortion looks like measured against a ruler at up to 9 weeks (most abortions are that early)
- pyuser583 4y agoAn abortion? Or a fetus? Very different things.
- baseline-shift 4y agoas the pictures show in that article, at 9 weeks, there is no fetus. What was aborted is kind of loose clump of matter about 1"
- notsound 4y agoI see abortion as just another culture war issue. I think people should be able to revoke their bodily resources at will, and that includes the unborn.
- pyuser583 4y agoAre you a libertarian?
- ThePowerOfFuet 4y agoThey're a human.
- notsound 4y agoIn some ways, but I do think freedom is more nuanced than doing whatever you want, even at other people's expense. In the case of abortion, I think the fetus is infringing on the mother's rights by consuming resources without their consent. It's also debatable whether fetuses are "alive".
- pyuser583 4y agoI get the rights thing, but fetuses not being alive … could you expand on that?
- baseline-shift 4y agoUnborn baby is a misnomer: There are photos here of the aborted pregnancy tissue (gestational sacs) aka "unborn baby" shown at up to 9 weeks with a ruler by this GP who performs abortions: https://www.nytimes.com/2023/01/22/opinion/early-abortion.html?action=click&module=RelatedLinks&pgtype=Article https://www.nytimes.com/2023/01/22/opinion/early-abortion.ht... The GP notes that most abortions are performed in the first 9 weeks: "It’s important to us to counter medical misinformation related to early pregnancy because about 80 percent of abortions in the United States occur at nine weeks or earlier."
