Open the AI Doors. Nobody can agree on what intelligence or safety mean
- ftxbro 4y agoHis conclusion: "If the AI safety debate slows America down enough to cause us to lose this race, it will have made humanity far less safe."
- dangus 4y agoThe cat is out of the bag. Nobody's going to be slowed down. We don't even have a comprehensive privacy law that covers Web 2.0 in the USA so there's no chance in hell that American legislature can act quickly enough to respond to the development of AI. These are the people who are having interns print out emails for them and are spending 99% of their time on campaigning and fighting the culture war. Wasn't there speculation that the AI professionals who wrote the open letter were just butthurt that OpenAI was eating their lunch? That they wanted more time to catch up? Maybe that was just an Internet conspiracy theory but...whatever...nothing is going to be real anymore, anyway.

Yes this is such an obvious speculation to make, that the times I've heard it most was from ones who signed the slow-AI letter, when they were preempting the speculation that they knew was going to be made.
