I'm the creator of htmx. A few things:
* it isn't from and supported by a big tech company like google or facebook
* it is idiosyncratic, using hypermedia rather than the more popular RPC/reactive approach of most front end libraries
* there are very few job postings mentioning it, and most folks, for obvious and valid reasons, want to learn libraries that are relevant for jobs
I'm very happy w/ how much traction it's gotten though, and I expect it will keep growing in the future. I doubt it will ever be anywhere near the big front end libraries, but if it's a small, stable tool that makes things better for some people, that's good enough for me.
- leephillips 4y agoThis attitude is another reason I like htmx. It’s happy to do what it does, and do it extremely well, without trying to encompass the entire universe.
- vyrotek 4y agoThis is why I love HN. :) Thank you for your efforts! I just recently discovered it. It looks like a breath of fresh air for those of us who have been doing this stuff for a long time. As you said, discoverability is probably the only reason why it's not more well known. There are devs who haven't ventured out of React for their entire careers and don't know to look for better tools for different problems.
- leros 4y agoDoes HTMX have a niche where would you suggest a company use it over the more popular libraries?
- recursivedoubts 4y agoi think if you have a dev team that wants to do full stack developement and who has a preference for a non-JS backend, it can be a good fit. You should consider if the app you are building is amenable to the hypermedia approach htmx takes though: https://htmx.org/essays/when-to-use-hypermedia/ https://htmx.org/essays/when-to-use-hypermedia/ The django community has picked it up and had some good success w/ it: https://htmx.org/essays/a-real-world-react-to-htmx-port/ https://htmx.org/essays/a-real-world-react-to-htmx-port/
