SO many people talk endlessly about their politics today though. Maybe this isn't a real big difference than what happened in the past. But my god, I am so sick of people endlessly debating and gotcha-ing without EVER doing anything about it!! I know leftists who insist that the world is a hellhole and you're complicit if you don't agree with it, and then they do literally nothing to help. Maybe volunteer for a month or so at a shelter. Then - nothing.
But they still talk about their politics as if they are supremely important, and, what is more concerning, as if they are 100% correct. I don't know what to say to them anymore. If you're so convinced and passionate, shut up and do it. Otherwise, everyone is forced to assume you are either posturing, or just using politics as an excuse to justify your own lack of initiative. And that is tedious and yes, boring!
- wahnfrieden 4y agoI haven’t found many worker cooperatives in tech, there’s a list. Seen any groups actually doing practical work toward political goals? I understand what you find off putting about a general obsession with correctness and rules. Many on the left are also just running toward different new forms of hierarchical domination which is exhausting enough https://raddle.me/f/Anarchism/153342/how-to-be-a-leftoid-10-red-flags-to-drape-yourself-with https://raddle.me/f/Anarchism/153342/how-to-be-a-leftoid-10-... made me think of #8 here
- hydrok9 4y agoJust do something local! Find a group that helps with something you think is important to society, and get involved with that. Find a network. Help people who are being let down by what you think is wrong in society. Don't rely on the internet. You can spend your entire life talking about what other people should do (this was more the point of my original post), but if you aren't involved in any way, why should anyone care, and why should anyone even assume you know what you're talking about?
- wahnfrieden 4y agoThanks for elaborating. I just quit my career and have gone indie and am learning how to scale up working together w people again (eg sociocracy) thru work that I’ve started myself that can fund its own growth, rather than joining something else but will look local to connect and understand/seek cooperation.
