For heinous crimes, the death penalty serves a much greater role than the execution of the criminal itself, sending a message to society that there are some things that simply cannot be tolerated, say mass murder or some instances of rape. Would you still not be an advocate? If so, what would be your proposed alternative? I'd argue the death penalty may play a role in disincentivising criminals from even thinking about them in the first place. And a life sentence, especially from repeat offenders committing grave crimes,(this maybe a hot take bear with me), society is essentially wasting resources on them keeping them alive.
