- jfengel 4y agoHeadline is misleading. Carlsen said that he was going to retire/resign as world champion. That was going to happen regardless of this tournament. This was his last tournament, and he lost it. They weren't even playing the kind of chess that goes into the world championship: it's a blitz game with slightly different rules. That's why a mouse was involved at all. Headline implies that he lost the championship because of a mouse slip. That's not what happened. He lost a game, and he's no longer champion (or won't be soon), but the two facts are disconnected.
