Show HN: Chrome extension to improve productivity with ChatGPT
- nateabele 4y agoI was ready to install it when I clicked the link, until I saw the persona thing. Feels super bizarre and it's a huge turn-off. I dunno, maybe it's just me.
- jakeprins 4y agoWhat would you recommend to use instead? No pictures and name, just roles? Btw you can update the pictures and names inside the extension itself.
- maybe_pablo 4y agoHow about regular application icons?
- jakeprins 4y agoHm yea I indeed, guess that could also work. For most roles I'll be able to find a icon. Would you say just show those icons + roles by default and through the whole "Team" idea out the window? The name/domain/concept is kind of already focussed on that. But yea, if people don't like it it's better to make changes.
- josephwegner 4y agoI think cute little robots or even just animated characters would land better than this realistic avatars. I don't want the AI to feel human, but it can still have a "personality". WALL-E vibes come to mind.
- nateabele 4y agoYeah, I like this and other similar suggestions. Either generic task-related icons, or if you're going to personify them in some way, use bots or something similar. Some friends run a platform called Transloadit, and they used to use little bot icons[0] for each of their processing jobs, and that seems to have worked well for them. - matesz 4y agoSame
- jakeprins 4y agoGot any ideas for a different approach? It would still need to support different "roles" you can chat with. Based on the role it gives different answers. Like one could summarize your current page, while another can generate HTML/Tailwind elements.
- ryanwaggoner 4y agoYeah, it weirded me out too, but I have a little trouble identifying why. Maybe I just don't like this level of anthropomorphizing of AI? I wonder if you could do a series of different named robots instead of people?
- nerdponx 4y agoBecause it feels like I'm being BS'ed in some way. These are basically real-world NPCs. It's uncanny and unpleasant.
- jakeprins 3y agoI made some updates and it's now using of robots. I'm launching the updated version on ProductHunt today: https://www.producthunt.com/posts/teamsmart-ai https://www.producthunt.com/posts/teamsmart-ai Interested in hearing your thoughts.
- jakeprins 4y agoGood idea. Btw if you install the extension you will see that I had already replaced the human pictures with pictures on AI generated images. They are still faces, but you can clearly see that they are not real people.
- jakeprins 3y agoThank again for the feedback. I went with your idea of using images of cute robots and it indeed feels better than the realistic images. I'm launching the updated version on ProductHunt today: https://www.producthunt.com/posts/teamsmart-ai https://www.producthunt.com/posts/teamsmart-ai
- splatzone 4y agoI agree with this. I’d rather just see descriptive traits rather than anthropomorphised characters. The personas with avatars reminds me of AI role playing apps like Replika and TavernAI, not in a good way.
- jakeprins 4y agoWould AI generated avatars work? If you install the extension you'll see that it uses different images then on the landing page. Or would you go with just icons?
- splatzone 4y agoI’d just go with icons that represent the skills (PHP, marketing, etc) - avoid the anthropomorphism I think :)
- jakeprins 3y agoThank again for the feedback. I went with images of some cute robots and it indeed feels better than realistic photo's. I'm launching the updated version on ProductHunt today: https://www.producthunt.com/posts/teamsmart-ai https://www.producthunt.com/posts/teamsmart-ai
- ramesh31 4y agoYeah I'm gonna pass on uploading my PII to someone making a ligma joke.
- counttheforks 4y agoWhat's ligma?
- deleted 4y ago[deleted]
- michelb 4y agohttps://www.dictionary.com/e/pop-culture/ligma/ https://www.dictionary.com/e/pop-culture/ligma/
- jakeprins 4y agoYea I should have updated the landing page before posting about it. Btw their is nothing to upload. It's only a client-side application. No data is being stored accept on your local device.
- thelittleone 4y agoEach to his/her/their/they own. I wasn't bothered by the personas at all.
- jakeprins 3y agoI made some updates and it's now using of robots. I'm launching the updated version on ProductHunt today: https://www.producthunt.com/posts/teamsmart-ai https://www.producthunt.com/posts/teamsmart-ai Thanks for the feedback
- contravariant 4y agoThese April fools jokes are getting increasingly hard to distinguish from actual products.
- jakeprins 4y agoHaha daamnn! Come on man, did you even try it out? You can just use your own OpenAI API key so no need to subscribe or anything. You don't like it just simply uninstall. Anyways, thanks for the feedback ;)
- noman-land 4y agoHis joke was admittedly funny but also obviously rude. You handled it well :). Keep making stuff.
- jakeprins 4y agoAppreciate it :)
- ryanwaggoner 4y agoThat's pretty rude.
- kid64 4y agoI love this concept. Is there currently a plan for a Firefox version?
- jakeprins 4y agoNot at this moment, but if the project gets a bit of traction I will definitely look into creating a Firefox version.
- nekits 4y agoA pretty nice implementation of the trendy GPT assistant and super cool monetization mechanics
- josephwegner 4y agoCurious what the draw is to use a Chrome extension for this? Why not a desktop app?
- jakeprins 4y agoI liked the idea that a chrome extension can check the content of your current page so you can instantly ask questions. For example, when you read an article you can click the icon and ask for a summary without having to copy/past the text into a chat box. But yea a desktop app will also be really cool. I haven't tried it yet but something like SwiftGPT (https://www.swiftgpt.app/ https://www.swiftgpt.app/) looks promising.
- greggh 4y agoI'll definitely be interested if it ever gets a Safari extension.
- jakeprins 4y agoThank you. I'll look into that.
- dtagames 4y agoI think it looks great and I love that you can add your own API key. I'll give it a try next time I ask something and I'll comment again. Thanks, jake.
- jakeprins 4y agoAwesome! Thank you
- web3-is-a-scam 4y agowho approved of "Ligma" for the name of the person in the hero image LMFAO
- jakeprins 4y agooops
- KaoruAoiShiho 4y agoI already pay for plus though, and my api key doesn't have access to GPT4. Can you just make it work with the website? I already use this: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/unijump-shortcut-for-chat/olikadnicfhhpkfleolncoligkdcmjai https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/unijump-shortcut-f... which doesn't need an API key.
- srezasade 4y agoFunny me too and which saves me time
- swframe2 4y ago(slightly off-topic) The elephant in the room is ... Don't we need to address the issue that openai uses the data for training their future models? For many inputs this is not a big problem at all. But shouldn't there be an option (even if it requires an additional cost) that allows users to enter a mode where their input is not retained?
- eightysixfour 4y agoBy default, OpenAI doesn’t train with data from the the API. They do with ChatGPT and you cannot disable it. That is why there are so many front-ends for the API now. https://openai.com/policies/api-data-usage-policies https://openai.com/policies/api-data-usage-policies
- babyshake 4y ago> Is their a web version available? Should be "Is there a web version?"
- jakeprins 4y agoThanks!
- 0x008 4y agoAnother alternative frontend: chatpad.ai no prompt selection, but you can select character, tone, style and format of the output and you can export all your data as json afterwards (which you can't in ChatGPT). But regarging the pre-made prompts, while it actually makes sense to have a prompt library (also with placeholders), I want to use my own prompts. For every step in software development I probably will develop my own prompts tailored to my specific use case or project, i.e. "write a docstring for this function in the format xxx, in the style of yyy". I am waiting for the day where we have AI to generate prompts for other AIs depending on my project context.
- jusob 4y agoTypo: "and support the development of tje project."
