Tell HN: ChatGPT is helping me beat procrastination
Judging by the number of procrastination posts I see here on HN, I bet we've all been there. We gotta start a new task; we freeze. And yeah, we've all heard the advice: "break tasks into small chunks!", "build habits!", "don't rely on motivation!"... Tell me something I don't already know! Yet, here we are, thinking about what needs to be done and not knowing where to start.
Enter ChatGPT.
- "ChatGPT, I need to write document XYZ... oh wait, it doesn't have the necessary context!"
- "ChatGPT, I work for EnterpriseCo, a company that wants to solve problem X; as part of this problem, we need to provide service Y... now, as part of service Y, I need to create feature Z..."
- "Let me explain this better to you: feature Z will help clients engage in our product..."
- "This is how the journey of our clients is going to be like: ..."
- "Given all this that I explained to you, can you write me a document with sections A, B and C that explain how feature Z is going to work?"
Before I knew it, I had written a shitton of content. Yeah, sure, ChatGPT is helping me with the formatting and better structuring the text, but I am still doing 95% of the work. ChatGPT is just making me a lot more productive by helping me beat procrastination.
- dtagames 4y agoIt does remove a lot of the drudgery of starting something new, or debugging something, or investigating something -- all of which sometimes kill the joy of work. I have found it motivating, too!
- valencar 4y agoBtw, I did start this post by using ChatGPT. Did a full brain dump on what I had in mind and got back a response from ChatGPT I didn't quite like. I ended up writing the whole post on my own without using ChatGPT's response.
