List of Wealthiest Religious Organizations
- gus_massa 4y agoI'm very surprised about the Greek Orthodox. Why do they have more much money than other similar organizations?
- 082349872349872 4y agoseems like they have a sweet deal: https://www.france24.com/en/20110627-wealthy-orthodox-church-spotlight-amid-greek-crisis https://www.france24.com/en/20110627-wealthy-orthodox-church... > The Greek Orthodox Church owns property worth some €700 billion – more than double the country’s national debt. And yet it is the struggling Greek state that pays the salaries and pensions of all the Orthodox clerics in the country. also, Greece is a democracy now but was fascist within my lifetime, so I'd cynically guess the church did even better under the Junta.
- dtagames 4y agoThe Catholic Church is at the bottom of the list with no dollar value? Shouldn't it be at the top? And since Catholic means universal and all are part of the same church, why are they split out by country?
- cafard 4y agoThat does jump out at you, doesn't it? The US Catholic Church must have a lot more money than the French. Perhaps the decentralized administration--New York and Boston and Chicago ... marks it hard to run the money down.
