Show HN: How teenagers get out of trips to see grandpa 2023
I got this txt from my 13 year old:
Spring break is an exciting time for many students, but I have mixed feelings about it this year. While I'm grateful for the opportunity to take a break from school and recharge, I'm not looking forward to the planned trip to my grandfather's house. In fact, I believe that staying home for one day of spring break is a better decision for me, and here's why:
Firstly, the trip would disrupt my schedule and routine. As a student, I thrive on structure and routine, and I've worked hard to establish a productive daily routine that helps me stay on track with my goals. Being away from home, even for a day, would mean abandoning my routine and risking falling behind on my schoolwork and other commitments. Additionally, traveling can be stressful and tiring, which would leave me feeling drained and unable to enjoy the rest of my spring break.
Secondly, staying home would enable me to pursue activities that I enjoy and find fulfilling. For example, I've been meaning to catch up on some reading, explore a nearby hiking trail, and spend time with friends who live in the area. These activities would not only bring me joy and relaxation, but also contribute to my personal growth and well-being.
Lastly, I believe that staying home for one day would help me maintain a healthy work-life balance. As a student, it's easy to get caught up in academic and extracurricular pursuits and neglect other areas of my life, such as my relationships and self-care. Staying home would allow me to prioritize these areas and ensure that I'm not neglecting my overall well-being.
In conclusion, while I understand the importance of spending time with family, I believe that staying home for one day over spring break is a better decision for me. It would enable me to maintain my routine, pursue activities that bring me joy and fulfillment, and maintain a healthy work-life balance.

- hitpointdrew 4y ago"That's a well thought out argument." "Thanks!" "You're still going to see Grandpa though." That would be how I would handle it. >As a student, I thrive on structure and routine, and I've worked hard to establish a productive daily routine that helps me stay on track with my goals. Being away from home, even for a day, would mean abandoning my routine and risking falling behind on my schoolwork Life is always going to throw you curve balls kid, you aren't some delicate vase. You need to learn to roll with the punches, be flexible, and adapt. You'll manage. > For example, I've been meaning to catch up on some reading, explore a nearby hiking trail, ... Spend less time watching TV, playing video games, being on your phone when you are not on vacation and read or go for a hike instead. If it is important to your well being you should make it a higher priority.
- NickC25 4y agoHe probably used ChatGPT to write that. You can counter with this anecdote: when I was his age, I didn't want to go see my grandparents either - it was boring and I thought I had better plans. Then my grandfather was diagnosed with alzheimers disease, and by the time I was mature enough to want to spend some time with him, he didn't even recognize his own children, let alone his grandchildren. I never really had a relationship with him because of that awful disease. I regret that and will always do so. You never know when your elderly relatives will drop dead or cease to be mentally capable of engaging with you. Cherish the moments that you can spend with them.

- qbrass 4y agoAt least they didn't put that in writing you can quote whenever it would work in your favor instead of theirs.
