Amazon used to offer exactly that kind of service. You could upload your own music files or get them automatically when your purchased an album (digitally or physically), then play them from a web player or locally installed client app. It worked great, so of course they killed it and now you can only listen to music they license/allow streaming.
- slickdork 4y agoGoogle music had the system to same upload your own music for a while.
- TylerE 4y agoDidn't that get killed because they weren't actually storing a copy for each user, and it got them in copyright trouble?
- rtpg 4y agoI can still buy mp3s off of Amazon and download them. Maybe this is dependent on the country?
- qbasic_forever 4y agoThis was different, Amazon allowed you to upload any of your own music and stream it from them. You didn't have to buy the music from them, it could have been old mp3s you downloaded from Napster ages ago for example.
