What is wrong with Elon, what happened to him in the last year. Dude seems to have malfunctioned after becoming the world's richest person. Or maybe its early stage dementia from the stimulants he took to stay awake in Tesla production hell finally showing. It's not even about US politics, this will piss off both Republicans and Democrats. Unless he plans to move to China this is a stupid move. Aligning with China when you own a company like SpaceX is a bad idea.
Edit: They're already freaked out that he's limiting Ukraine using Starlink and now this. He's on a path where the US government is going to force him to divest from SpaceX.
- anigbrowl 4y agoMaybe that path is the intention, because it'd give him huge martyrdom cred. I think you overestimate the importance of consistency in politics. Trump constantly waxes lyrical about how well he gets on with Putin and Xi, how smart they are etc., and there's no question that he remains the leader of his party. Musk's aim is not recouping money but expanding his power. He enjoys being a world-historical figure. Labeling NPR as 'state-controlled media' while ignoring far more deserving designees is a flex; the blatant hypocrisy is a way of rubbing people's nose in the fact that he's not bound by normal considerations.
- moose_man 4y agoI guess we can all be thankful that he is ineligible to become President.
- anigbrowl 4y agoBear in mind that the far right has no love for democracy and a lot of them not-so-secretly want to install a monarchy instead, and that this is a transnational effort. It sounds ridiculous, but so do a lot of things until they happen.
