Lord of the Rings Amazon Series: Most Viewers Didn't Finish It
- PaulHoule 4y agoIsn’t that true in general? I play a lot of anime-related games on my XBOX ONE and I find it pretty shocking that only 3% of people played through to the end of the story mode in many of them.
- brucethemoose2 4y agoThe finales of seasons used have more viewers than the premieres, but I guess that was an artifact of pre streaming days.
- throwntoday 4y agoThat's still the case with good shows but the sheer amount of trash being shoveled out to pad content libraries makes good stuff exceedingly rare. Also consider that everything has to drag out for 5+ seasons to reap as much cash as possible leaving viewers unsatisfied as shows substitute cohesive stories for cheap thrills to string you along begrudingly. Amazon LotR was far too ambitious and ultimately mediocore at best. They made it clear that this wasn't for fans of the books, it was another underwhelming fantasy series chasing down the success of GoT. They spent far too much money on it, traded diehard Tolkein fans for the wokest writers who probably never read or don't respect the source (see: Netflix Witcher). Apple's Foundation adaptation suffered the same issue. Although that was considerably more insulting to fans. Harris and Pace are carrying that show to the point I just skipped through any scene they are not in and I missed nothing important.
- PaulHoule 4y agoI like Foundation even though it genderswapped almost as much as the Fate series. (Maybe it’s like Fate got mashed up with the Oprah Winfrey Show.) https://www.world-nuclear-news.org/Articles/Dive-team-enters-Sellafield-pond?feed=feed https://www.world-nuclear-news.org/Articles/Dive-team-enters... I think they did well with difficult subject matter and I’m looking forward to the next season.
- brucethemoose2 4y agoEh that is a bit hyperbolic. There has always been a huge volume of bad TV, which no one remembers. But there is just so much more TV that its hard to even sift through without an aggregator tool with ratings like Reelgood. I would consider Witcher mediocre but not woke, and not Wheel of Time bad. I like Foundation. I havent read the books, but it doesn't feel like any of the cast is misgendered, so to speak.
- brucethemoose2 4y agoSo... worth watching? I put this off after being burned by the Wheel of Time. I don't mind a slow start and thought it would get better, but it did not.
- smoldesu 4y ago> So... worth watching? Kinda, if you're a glutton for awful production. I made it through a whopping two-and-a-half episodes before stopping for the sake of my mental health: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=32891694 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=32891694 It's... truly unprecedented television.
- brucethemoose2 4y agoI thought you were exaggerating until I saw that horse riding clip. Who approved this at Amazon? ...at least it not exposition. Its like they took "show, don't tell" way too far.
- smoldesu 4y agoIt's dumbfounding. I didn't mean to sound hyperbolic, but this show is a masterclass in wasting your audience's time. They paid a fortune for some great stock footage, actors, sets, costumes and special effects, but only managed to make it's relation to Tolkien superficial.
