I don't really see why windows XP is a better UI. There's lots of stuff that is majorly missing compared to a more modern OS. This sounds like many I talk to in that they refuse to learn or make any changes in their life. I don't think this is a positive attitude to have. He also sounds like a major cheapskate and my country is full of people like this very hard to argue why spending your money is a good thing (within reason).
