E-Bikes and cars on the same road present new type of risks.
(USA, right side drive story follows).
On three occasions in the past few months, I've driven my car past a bicyclist riding safely in the bike lane - no issue. I arrive at an intersection with a Stop sign - check to see if the intersection is clear - and then initiate a right turn. As I'm turning, the e-bicyclist has sped up beyond usual expectations and a) tried to make the same right turn before me or b) tried to speed through the intersection in front of me. In both cases, I've had to slam on my brakes to avoid hitting the e-bicyclist.
In every case, it is because e-bikes are much faster at accelerating and get to a higher top-speed than human powered bikes. Bikes have no special right-of-way privileges. Nevertheless these three e-bikers have blasted right in front of my turning car - forcing me to stop.
