>My belief is that computer security is highly overrated. With a decent firewall, which every router has these days, only your own activity can expose you to attack from hostile actors. All internet browsers also help you by warning when you are about to do something stupid like executing code from a remote source.
This is a ridiculous thing to say. The reason that there are so few misleading ads, so few zero days being exploited, and in general a much less tricky landscape today is because the unyielding and unrelenting efforts of people improving computer security.

- wkat4242 4y agoGood point, security researchers often simply don't mention obsolete versions in security bulletins.
- bakugo 4y ago> The reason that there are so few misleading ads I can open youtube on my phone right now and find an ad saying "everyone who clicks here will get $1000", misleading ads are still everywhere even if they might not be malware. And I doubt ads exploiting browser 0-days were actually that common back in the day, ads in general weren't nearly as common.
- parker_mountain 4y agoI suppose "so few" is relative. While they still exist, it's nothing like 10 years ago.
