Contemporary focus on the measurable (big data, nouns over verbs, llms) is rooted on the modern world view that objective truth exists and is easily quantifiable. While this data-driven world view clearly has merits, it is often misused as a way to suppress post-modernism, the subjective, unfounded opinions. I think business decisions is an area where this manifests.
To be clear, I'm not rallying for post-modernism, not saying we should all create our own subjective truths and leave it there. To the contrary. We ought to talk, deliberate, persuade, argue about business decisions and come to consensus. Facts and numbers may play a role here. But they should not be forced into some dirty pool of statistics, ML smoke and mirrors to render the subject into a simplistic technocratic decision.
