This procedure was valid 5 years ago, and all the alternatives have changed a lot in the same time period. So if I had to chose one way for the next decade, I would bet on this. But I will not pretend we can be sure about anything on this matter. In fact, my hope is that we can improve the process tremendously by creating an unified way of bootstrapping Python for all OS. If this ever happens, the procedure would become mostly obsolete. At the end of the week I will write about this, and the various experiments the community have done so far in that regard.
