The hot wings might be the gimmick to hook you in the first time, but the quality of the interview questions and the charisma of the host are what really keep you coming back.
Sean is a fantastic interviewer.
- kyle_grove 4y agoI also think the hot wings serve to disarm the guest. The host and the guest are sharing a painful experience which helps them bond a little.
- masklinn 4y agoUndoubtedly, you can visibly see Sean play on that between different interviews. If somebody's smashing the wings, he's smashing along. If somebody's being pained, he's limping as well. But then there's often really interesting question, the Hot Ones team does not skimp on researching the guests, and I've seen a few who were surprised or even blown away by how specific and personal (not in a bad way, just about things close to their hearts) the inquiries were.
- spaceman_2020 4y agoYeah, a lesser host might be tempted to be a little cocky in front of a big celeb and try to one-up them on their spice tolerance. But Sean is always okay playing second fiddle.
- conor- 4y agoWhat's really fascinating is listening to Sean talk about his _process_ for preparing for his interviews in such a short amount of time. Listening to him talk, he really sounds like a hacker. He figured out a way to optimize preparation to organize extremely in-depth, thoughtful questions in a way that others have not. And ultimately, it's what sets him apart in a very saturated field. [0] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTRLCSWfq7I https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTRLCSWfq7I
- VoodooJuJu 4y ago>charisma He may have interesting questions. Charisma, he has not. His delivery is too deadpan and rehearsed. For each question he asks, he doesn't listen to the answer, he just waits for his cue to deliver the next question.
- stathibus 4y agoHe's got his character and process dialed in very well. I agree it doesn't translate to charisma on camera. The way he delivers questions is tremendously unnatural.
- spaceman_2020 4y agoCharisma is context dependent. In the context of an interview, a charismatic interviewer is one who can come across as authentic, honest, and humble enough to give the spotlight to the interviewee.
