I was seriously thinking of replacing an aging Dell laptop with a Mac running parallels. Until I saw the prices. I'm buying a new developer-class laptop today.

I'm buying a new developer-class laptop today. Not one from Apple. It's not even a close decision.
- okamiueru 4y agoI'm disillusioned with Apple. With any operating system, you can easily develop with good tools for Linux, Windows and Android. But for MacOS and iOS, you need to buy their hardware. Not sure why this anti-competive behaviour has been accepted for a whole industry. There is no valid technical reason for it. The small-ish company I'm a consultant at has started buying apple hardware to some of its developers. Not because they prefer the hardware, not because they prefer the operating system. But, we need someone to run xcode to build software.
