Shouldn't it be decided on an image-by-image basis? If the resulting image doesn't infringe copyright, what's the relevance of how it was made? That's how it's worked up until this point.
I mean, maybe because the impact is so severe we should HAVE new laws affording more protections to artists, but that's a different argument right?

- yencabulator 4y agoCopyright holders have been attacking copyright-infringing tools for quite a while now, there's nothing new about that. Imagine an image-generating ML dataset that has been trained on nothing but images of Mickey Mouse. Surely the Disney corporation would come after that, I have no doubt about that. Why does commingling Mickey with other inputs change that, if the tool can still reproduce images of Mickey Mouse when asked for that?
