No surprises here. The new Mac release cycle is not transparent to the consumers, and the differences between M1 and M2 are marginal for most use cases.

- tpetry 4y agoAnd the M2 is a lot more expensive.
- mkl95 4y agoAgree. You are set for a decade with a M1. Not much of a point in upgrading for 99%+ of users.
- hinkley 4y agoApple had bigger plans for the M2 chip but they had power dissipation problems. That sort of a miss is going to affect sales.
- sliken 4y agoI've not see any evidence of power issues. Saw a minor miss that they had some ray tracing functionality in the GPU, but ended up being more power hungry than planned, so they disabled it. But the chip with the same cores is doing fine in apple phones, ipads, and their thin/light mba, mbp 14", and mbp16" with no power/battery life/heat issues that I've heard of. Sadly they didn't bring out a Mac Studio M2 max, but clearly if they can fit that in 14" laptop they could fit the same in the studio.
