I worked in one place where the CEO monitored us on Slack, and also via a/v cameras which were everywhere. He had the entire working space covered and he'd sit in his office (which had a TV and PS4 in the corner) sat behind a desk with half a dozen monitors feeding back audio and mic from the office, like a spy operation. If he saw us chatting even a little bit he'd tell us on slack to get back to work. His idea of running his business was to run a CIA sting operation on his staff.
Every now and then he'd bring one of us in and promote us but the promotion meant nothing. I got 'head of frontend' in 3 weeks.
