People have been having families in cities since the first cities were founded. Suburbs as we know them have only existed since the 40's. I'm in my 30's quite happily single, but if I do have a family there's no way I want to move them to the suburbs. As a friend who raised two very successful kids in NYC (just like he was raised) once said to me, "As a parent, I have never had to worry about either one getting a car with someone who's been drinking, and that alone is worth it."
