- WalterBright 4y ago$20,000 for a plastic sink: https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/homeless/seattle-set-aside-100k-for-street-sinks-two-years-later-where-are-they/ https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/homeless/seattle-s...
- systemvoltage 4y agoIt's not just glaring stuff like this. We should measure government productivity/$ and amount of waste we have. Our nation would be like 3000% better if Gov was run at the efficiency of a SV startup. Source: I am a Gov employee.
- WalterBright 4y agoThe interesting thing is nobody is held to account for how the sinks cost so much. It's just "eh". Seattle has done other things like buying port-a-potties for $250,000 each, and spending $12 million to paint bike stripes on a mile of street. Simply nobody cares about it.
- ticviking 4y agoNo one is actually accountable for it. Those are slightly different things

- euroderf 4y agoIf that 12M$ paint job had been accessible via an easy-to-use city web UI, probably some political gadfly would have spotted it at an early enough stage ?
- themitigating 4y agoThen you would complain about the cost of that system. Besides what do you want people to do? Vote republican so they can give farmers subsidies and buy two billion dollar bombers which of course you'll say "it's different"
- euroderf 4y agoWhere did this rant come from ? I'm just suggesting that every polity has gadflies, and if you give them the tools, they'll dig around and find stuff.
- themitigating 4y agoThe journalists often investigate government waste but the Republicans made everyone mistrust them and you went along with it
- euroderf 4y agoum, okay, wotevs
- themitigating 4y agoAm I wrong, what's the issue

- themitigating 4y agoHow do you know these were a waste of money?
- WalterBright 4y agoBecause when my house was built I know what the port-a-potty on site cost.
- themitigating 4y agoHow do you know that's too much money?
- WalterBright 4y agoCall your local hardware store and ask them how much a utility sink costs.
- operatingthetan 4y agoIf you had read your own link you would have learned much more goes into the cost than just purchasing a sink. Why are you pretending like the city is just getting gouged on the hardware part?
- themitigating 4y agoThis kinda of overly simplistic analysis and invalid comparisons is what republicans like you use to manipulate people and gain power
- systemvoltage 4y agoOh come on.
- crawfordcomeaux 4y agoWell there's the entire prison industrial complex that punishes rather than rehabilitates and doesn't address the issues driving crime or recidivism. And all of that goes completely counter to the science of learning how to learn, so what if we start with that?
- r00fus 4y agoThe DOD can’t account for 60% of its spend and keeps failing audit. https://www.npr.org/2021/05/19/997961646/the-pentagon-has-never-passed-an-audit-some-senators-want-to-change-that https://www.npr.org/2021/05/19/997961646/the-pentagon-has-ne...
