GPT 4 and the Uncharted Territories of Language
- cs702 4y agoFabulous essay. I highly recommend you read it in its entirety. And make sure to read the footnote at the bottom too. I agree with Jeremy that the ability of large AI models to mimic any writing style "will make certain people mad."
- eternalban 4y ago> Fabulous essay. You jest, right? "In the end, this experiment has only left me feeling more confused and uneasy." Uneasy about what? Is it really more important to discern that a text was generated or conceived, instead of reading the text and evaluating the ideas put forward? Here is 'the world according to a stochastic langauge box': "Language is like a map that we use to navigate the world, but it’s also like a prison that keeps us from seeing what’s beyond the walls." Of course, that is the essence of the existence of an LLM. But it is a ridicolous proposition for a willful sentient immersed in reality.
