Is AI Fear This Century’s Overpopulation Scare?
- PaulHoule 4y agoYou can't leave out two social factors. (1) The Cthulhu cult organized around the "lesswrong" web site that has been promoting A.I. as an existential threat as a matter of faith. The founder of this group is having his arguments referred to as "classical" on other web sites, which is like L. Ron Hubbard hijacking the conversation about psychology. (2) A.I. ethics offices at various "Big Tech" firms that went through a predictable trajectory of: (a) hyping the A.I. capabilities of these firms ("look, it is so powerful it is dangerous..."), (b) once the hype train left the station these people were fired, which in turn leads to the story "this technology is so dangerous that they had to fire the people who were speaking out" which in turn legitimizes A.I., the A.I. safety discourse and the Yudkowsky cult. Remember kids, A.I. doesn't kill people, people kill people.
