Is ChatGPT killing StackOverflow? An analysis of four months of data
- statsstats 4y agoRefreshing good and neutral writing, love the respect kept up for SO
- skilled 4y agoIt's Google killing it, I thought the graph made that absolutely clear.
- bradgessler 4y agoI couldn’t agree more. Google is killing Google by changing their search result criteria from “relevant & useful to the user” to “relevant & profitable to Google”. The timing of ChatGPT is just an unfortunate coincidence for the team at Google that’s trying to squeeze more juice out of ad revenue.
- isaacfrond 4y agoBetteridge's law of headlines comes to mind. So I'm included to answer no. [Fun fact, in a study of news articles with question headlines, it turns out that most are actually answered with 'yes' in the article. So there you go]
- kypro 4y agoI still use StackOverflow for simple queries about syntax, etc, but for questions where I don't really know what I'm looking for ChatGPT is great. The strength of ChatGPT is that you can describe your problem in some detail then ask for recommendations to your specific problem. Then you can refine the solution offered with follow up questions which can be useful if you want to use a specific library, etc.
