Your post advocates an aproach to fighting spam...
- jfengel 4y agoI find that spam has almost completely disappeared, at least for me using GMail. I know I hear complaints on HN every so often, but I haven't seen this form letter in a while. Google managed to solve it. It does affect legitimate mailing lists and other mass mailers. The solution appears to have been places like MailChimp, who make it their business to stay on Google's good side, presumably weeding out the worst of the offenders. In fact, I wonder if that's why they reduced their free tier -- not for the money per se, but to root out the people using free accounts to send tons of spam. Which is why I find it so aggravating that Quora has taken basically no effort to automate spam fighting. There is so, so much spam there. Meanwhile Google and other mailers, facing a much harder problem, have basically nailed it.
