Or they might be pissing in the wind, attempting to snatch 15 minutes of fame by contradicting a document signed by over 1000 people involved in AI industry and research. Whichever "side" one takes boils down to the appeal-to-authority fallacy anyway -- since no one can truly predict the future. But I believe I'll take the 500:1 odds in this case.
