A major toy company kept 4chan online
- none_to_remain 4y agoThis upsets the authoritarians producing content for Wired
- opan 4y agohttps://archive.is/cypyD https://archive.is/cypyD Good Smile, known for making Nendoroids and figma figures. Understandable they'd associate with a Japanese culture website. I had no idea they did anything with Disney, so that was an odd thing to mention as if people would know them from that.
- whaleofatw2022 4y ago> so that was an odd thing to mention as if people would know them from that. My cynical take is that it is the first step in a PR pressure push. i.e. "Tolerant Disney is giving business to a company that supports a place with lots of hateful speech" [1] [1] - Whether Disney is actually tolerant for good moral reasons or just maximizing profit is out of scope.
- abracadaniel 4y agoThe article mentions that Disney is cutting ties with them
- garbagecoder 4y agoAnd that company's name? SNEED (formerly m00ts) Seriously though, we know somehow someway this isn't going to end well. It's interesting to just watch it go down.
- chatmasta 4y ago> Documents obtained by WIRED confirm that Good Smile, which licenses toy production for Disney, was an investor in the controversial image board. Why is the article presenting this as some sort of scoop? It's been publicly known for a while that Good Smile owns 4chan. The Hollywood Reporter [0] reported on it in 2021, and even Wired themselves [1] in 2022.
