Sam Altman calls for a new world government
- tomcam 4y ago> things we need for a good AGI future: > ... > 3) an effective global regulatory framework including democratic governance Fantastic, we'll A|B test. Let America stick to its Constitution the control. Have Europe try to wrangle Russia, Turkey, South Sudan, Saudia Arabia, etc. into "democratic governance". I wonder what Sam feels about a free press and women's rights. Because none of the above countries are exactly big fans.
- dragonwriter 4y ago> Fantastic, we’ll A|B test. Let America stick to its Constitution Not sure the US Constitution really addresses AGI effectively, or that there are alternative existing frameworks that substantially differ on how they address AGI so as to provide a good A/B test.
- tomcam 4y agoNot sure it should address AGI. This is Sam’s idea, not mine.
- coldtea 4y agoOr you know, about not having a superiority complex, a huge opressive legal and prison system, a history of slavery softened into seggregation and systemic racism until well into the 20th century and surpassing anything in Europe and close only to South Africa, a habbit of invading and bombing other countries, sanctioned torture, a huge surveillance mechanism, a century old history of wars and meddling with other governments, the only country dropping nuclear bombs, a big user of chemical weapons on other countries, and so on. And we haven't even got into religious nuts and gun fanatics, crime levels, police shootings, and so on. Because your "good" side doesn't look that good on those fronts either...
- tomcam 4y agoI agree with much of what you said. Like I say, A|B test. Maybe we troglodytes will join after the enlightened Europeans, Saudis, Sudanese, Turks and so on shine the torch of global democracy in our direction.
- coldtea 4y agoI think the first light will shine when the "A" side on this A|B understands that the others are not inferior, nor is their job to tell them how to live, and not everybody wants to adopt their Constitution, way of life, or culture, or even their governments, and that doesn't make them "troglodytes" or deserving to be mockingly called as "enlightended", nor damsels in distress for the "A" white knight to save. In other words, when you understand that mocking "Europeans, Saudis, Sudanese, Turks" for their systems, their ways of life, their culture, etc. is no better than mocking blacks.
- ftxbro 4y ago"oh you guys didn't form a global government to stop me so i guess you wanted these bad things to happen to you"
- smoldesu 4y agoMake hay while the sun shines, as they say.
- wsgeorge 4y ago> a new world government > an effective global regulatory framework including democratic governance Those are not the same thing.
- nico 4y agoCurrently, we technically don’t even have a “global regulatory framework” for anything. Is there a single global organization to which all nations belong? And are they actually effective at being a global regulatory framework? The defacto current global regulatory framework is pretty much what the US says. What Altman is saying sounds like it challenges the US government as a regulatory entity.
- ftxbro 4y agoSam is out here tweeting about superintelligence. Did he get Blake'd by Sydney?
- senttoschool 4y agoMisleading post title.
- ashwagary 4y agoSam Altman? Name sounds familiar. Isn't he the guy scamming poor tech illiterate people in 3rd world countries into giving up their biometric data?
