A 2022 report from the nonprofit Mental Health America ranked the state last in the nation in access to mental-health care; nearly three-quarters of Texas youth who had a major depressive episode did not receive mental-health treatment, the worst rate in the country, according to the report. Choosing to spend billions building a wall and next to nothing on mental health access for children is the epitome of Texas thinking.
