I am in no sense a person who has the chops, inclination, or talent to create a programming language. However, I do sometimes think about "What would a programming language with the following precepts be like?" and pose to myself various hypothetical axioms, or results, or constructs.
It would be ... interesting ... to design a language without WATs. Where the truth tables and the NaNs and whatnot all made a kind of sense. I am left wondering if perhaps a minimum number of WATs would inevitably be present, no matter your design.
- acomjean 4y agoI think the language spec is where you would define things so you don't get "WATs". Getting a language that is intuitive and consistent is part of the tricky part. https://www.ecma-international.org/publications-and-standards/standards/ecma-262/ https://www.ecma-international.org/publications-and-standard... https://github.com/php/php-langspec/blob/master/spec/08-conversions.md https://github.com/php/php-langspec/blob/master/spec/08-conv...
