- the_why_of_y 4y agoThere is a common theme to all of them: Canonical retains exclusive control over the development by requiring assignment of copyright of all contributions to Canonical. The obvious consequence is that anybody who doesn't get paid by Canonical and wants to work in the area decides to contribute to the community based CLA-free competitor project (systemd, Wayland, Gnome/KDE/..., Flatpak), which eventually becomes more powerful/flexible/reliable due to lots of companies and individuals contributing. (The oldest of the CLA projects was the "Bazaar" distributed version control system, almost completely forgotten now)
