- kvetching 4y agoChina won't stop their progress. If they achieve AGI first, consider us over. A communist AGI will be used as a cyberweapon. The world order is fucked right now. Verge of WWIII. Russia suspended nuclear treaty. China and Iran are helping Russia. US and China are not on speaking terms since the balloon incident. China has stated for years they want to achieve global dominance. Calling for pausing AI right now is equivalent to calling for stopping the development of the nuclear bomb in the 1940s. If we did that, Germany wouldn't have abided by it, and they would have gotten a bomb and won WWII.
- retrocryptid 4y agoGiven the "success" of AI to date, encouraging the CCP to invest in AI research may be a decent strategy while the US tries to rebuild its manufacturing base.
