- trgn 4y agoThat's not true. In the 1700s and 1800s peasants across the world dressed differently. There was local conformity, certainly, but global diversity. There's something insidious that is happening, so slow we are not recognizing it (centuries now). It is that man is fully submitting to the machine. We are adapting, not just in what we buy (cause we've been nothing but consumers), but in how we comport ourselves in our relations to others. We are internalizing the value system of the machine on a global scale.
