Pi Powered Teletext Inserter
- codetrotter 4y agoMake sure to read the comment from that thread with the technical details as well: > This unit is designed to add teletext data to a video signal. If you've never heard of teletext, it was a text-based information service carried as part of a TV channel - within the video signal. Not massively common now, but still in use in some European countries. > This DIY build uses a Raspberry Pi along with my own inserter hardware & software from Peter Kwan & Alistair Cree to run a full teletext service. > It will automatically download data from an online repository, & will passively pass through the video signal in the event of a power failure. > To go deeper: teletext is carried as digital data in the Vertical Blanking Interval, just above the active picture in a PAL signal. So the Pi actually generates this data, and passes it over to my custom board by SPI, which sticks it into the video signal.
