Eliza (1960s chatbot) is a parody of psychologists at the time, who would be characterized in movies an tv by asking questions such as "and how does that make you feel?" or "how would you say your relationship with your parents is?", or "tell me more about X". It was a way to vent to something that based on the patterns in the program, made it seem as if it was really listening to you (or just playing the scene in the movie), but in fact it was only spitting out algorithmic responses.
