I figured firearms and ODing would be on the rise, but suffocation surprised me. It's still low, but also one of the few that's trending upward. What could be the cause of that?

- Inhibit 4y agoDrowning, if it's not covered elsewhere, would be my guess. Possibly infants with improper bedding and smothering hazards in their bed.
- stametseater 4y agoThe most proximate cause of death in a typical opioid overdose is respiratory depression; they stop breathing. Also, the popularization of autoerotic asphyxiation may play a role. The article's statistics do include teens up to 19 after all.
