Big Tech’s AI Armies Are Huge, yet Struggling to Innovate

- crop_rotation 4y agoBig tech has too much internal politics to move at the same pace as OpenAI. OpenAI had a small lean team, and massive massive money via MSFT. These two things normally do not co-exist. Satya Nadella really did pull a heist for Microsoft via the OpenAI partnership. The thing is these companies don't need 5k-10k scientists for innovating in AI. They need much less scientists working on generic models. Easy to say with hindsight benefit of seeing GPT4, but I wonder what the rest of big tech was doing.
