- nitinreddy88 4y agoThey laid off the entire India team (100+ engineers) yesterday. This is post first layoff, which happened in Feb 2023. There was no communication/announcement, just straight away received email notifying the same and all access removed. PS: Ex-Hubber and have so many friends in GitHub
- andrewstuart 4y agoI wonder what the thinking is. The whole idea of Indian teams is that offshore development is cheaper. So it seems strange they would lay off their cheaper devs.
- rhaway84773 4y agoI don’t know about GH specifically but based on what I’ve observed at other companies, some of the common issues are massive salary inflation over the past 2 years in India which is now reversing. I suspect they hired a lot of people at very high salaries and raised the salaries of existing employees to those levels as well. If the team isn’t integral enough, it probably made sense to replace them with contractors while they rebuild the permanent team at a lower salary base.
