- bediger4000 4y ago> I want to argue that the notion of banning software on personal devices should be a non-starter, and that it would be a gross affront to our freedoms if it came to pass. I agree. If the government did this, it would overreach. We should leave it to the market to decide, that's the American way.

San Bernardino is obsolete and a well-marketed edge case; Apple turns over your personal data by the score: https://www.apple.com/legal/transparency/ https://www.apple.com/legal/transparency/ > For the sake of an open future, the freedom to run software should be seen in a similar light Hopefully not. Even taking their argument in good faith, it's just a directionless plea for help. This has been a hot-topic issue for a while, and everyone ignored it. Now that we've let international conflict wedge it's way into the equation, there's a slim chance this will ever be addressed in a freedom-respecting manner. The lesson being - hold these companies to a higher standard. All of them, all of the time.
