The exciting thing about these debates (insufferable as I think they are because they're kind of a distraction from the real potential and threats of LLM-based systems) is seeing how many people will be forced to eat their words. As much as its responsible to downplay the hype and focus on the real stuff, this is uncharted territory, and researchers are only just beginning to explore the actual potential we have our hands. To his point that "text is only a projection", he seems to ignore just how much could be discovered by observing "projections".
